PNG Students in China contribute K1,000. towards education

PAPUA New Guinea students currently studying in mainland China have contributed a total of K1,000. towards the tuition fee of a Divine World final year student.

The students who are scattered all over China gave little they get from the Chinese Scholarship Council as part of their scholarship allowance towards Michael D. Kapus’ tuition fee.

Michael is a Fourth Year Health Management student at DWU. He is from Southern Highlands Province.

In an e-mail dated Feb 19, Michael shared his sad financial situation with students in China that he would not be able to complete his studies.

“It is already week four of the schooling year but I am still hanging around the school to fill my withdrawal form. My expectations from people who have promise me to pay my school fees have given me negative responses and am lost for words,” Michael said.
“Sadly, I will miss my HECAS and self sponsor again next year with more money than what I would pay this year. I need only K4300 but nobody is able to help me and my parents could not afford as they are very poor and exhausted,” he said.

DWU refused to allow Michael to register due to insufficient funds.

The students quickly responded with an e-mail to DWU administration to allow Michael’s registration while funds were collected.

A total of K1,000 was collected and sent through Madang Wespac Moneygram service on Thursday 12.

Students who contributed include Jeffers Teargun Heptol, Gene Drekeke Iyovo, Albert B. Tobby, Livingstone Hosea, Mathew Yakai and Malcome Philip Taureka

Liza Gabina, Third Secretary with the PNG Beijing’e embassy also contributed.

Gene, the organizer of the fund rising praised the students and Liza for their contribution.

“The money that you give now will make history tomorrow, will be a testimony in your life that hangs there longer, and in far greater way, you have intellectually done something for the nation that only few have found joy in doing it.”

“This is the best gift of God to enjoy his Love by Giving. This is the Spirit of the great leaders, we can see through their eyes now when we give,” Gene said.

“We have shown our courage and desire for change by overcoming and coming to help Michael who is a total stranger, but a Papua New Guinean. Together we will bring this nation up and we build together,” Gene said

Jeffers said, “Thanks for the job well done. I am proud of you all. This will go down in the history of PNG that like minded people will rise up and change the course of anything’s. Yes, we can!”

“Great Work! To all my other trupla PNG, mari mari na bel isi blo God iken stap wantaim yupela olgeta,” said Albert Tobby.

“Imagine, we all have God, we are all like minded, and we love our country....there we will move forward, and that’s where PNG really needs us,” said the writer.

After receiving the news that the money was sent, Michael thanked the students in China for their contribution.

“I am very pleased for your noblest action in contribution. No one could ever do such kind deed to a stranger...I am more than happy and my heart is relieved that I will complete studies for this academic year.”

“Thank God for YOU all are God sent to rescue me from my struggle. If you can really sense my struggle for education from a far distance, without knowing or physically seeing me, it is God who had intervened through you gents and ladies...I see God is really powerful and wonderful. I will never forget that in my life.”

“I can not say much because I am running out of words...I can hardly find a word to describe the effort, especially emailing guarantee letters to the administration and sacrificing your allowances for my education.”

You are all unique and this country, PNG need you all for you all have the right frame of mind to move this resourceful nation forward. My heart is with you all....and God bless you all,” said Michael.

The writer, on behalf of the students in China also thanked the Chinese Government for providing the scholarship to PNG students to study in China and able to help Michael in his struggle for education.

Bro,Iam so sorry to hear that. Nowadays, the rise in sch fees is problem for us in PNG also elsewhere,PNG gov has not make it affordable to cover all levels of people from grassroots up.Iam so sorry, I have just send K800 to my brother in Secondary scho.(Asaroka Luth Secondary), actually its our pencil/books allowances I send, somehow i have to sacrifice.Being also a young father, couple of times have to send some to wife and son back.Mathew told me he did same to his family student, yes, we are also tied up to friends and loved ones as we are from PNG. That is the type of will power and heart PNG needs to see. I am in however according to Michael he got almost 1 last week to pay his fees for registration and failure to do so will lead to suspension and possible termination. He needs more than K2000 to completely pay his tuition fees. This amount can be met if everyone in this mailing list contributes about K120 each. However most of us on this mailing list are students both in PNG and abroad. Depending on students monthly scholarship allowance especially those in China, this will take almost a month to get all the contribution. This is due to the following reasons:1) Monthly allowance are paid normally at the beginning of the month (1st - 10th), which means right now most students here in China might have only limited cash in hand to see them through until the beginning of next month.2) According to current exchange rate 1RMB at 0.39 toea, a 100RMB will buy only K390. Therefore inorder to contribute K150 each, each students should give more than 380 RMB. I personally as much as possible really wanted to help my dear brother however might not be able give exactly 380 RMB or more but will pay something less than this.Please do not take this as a negation to the spirit of giving and helping. Being realism sets the framework and clearifies the limitations of the issue at hand. Please those who are able to help right now can do so while others can do it later but not later than end of next month.Unless DWU changes its regulation, preliminary registration fees for Bachelor Stds is only K360, which lasted for the first two weeks. That is for students under HECAS. Self sponsored students are supposed to pay K750 for preliminary registration. Before the end of the first semester each students are supposed to pay atleast 60% of the total tuition fees. If this is the same arrangement today we might have ample time to help our brother accordingly. Hi all. I have not met Michael in person or seen him. But we all seem to have one thing in common - we have the love for our country. Michael, is a student at Divine Word University in Madang. In his recent e-mail, he expressed his heart-felt concern that he might not attend class due to school fee problem. His problem is similar to hundreds of PNg parents going through for their children. recently, I sent K1,000. for my sisters school fee. And I have K300. yet to send. I am also buying a graduation gown for my cousin brother at UPNG. In PNG, we have lots of social problem crippling the fabrick of our society. One of the main equipment to fight this is through education. Michael and other PNG brothers and sisters must go to school to see their dreams come through. When we focus on education, then our society will be rescued from all problem we go through. On that bases, I will arrange a K200. for Michael's fee. As said earlier, I have not met Michael in person and I do not know him. But I see a desire and dream in him, and the K200. will help him to go ahead in his future life. Hi Brother, I read through the email that was circulated and was really touched.I had experienced such a time once and I knew how it feels. We have and will help wholeheartedlyand indiscriminately. I understand that there are some of us who are from different bacgrounds with different stories to tell regardinghow we struggled to make it up to where we are. Education can never be denied, but now it seems that we havea selfish system in place, where only those with money can go to school but those who come from a disadvntaged financial family background, seems, per projected that we will be left out. I should and am congratulating our brother Drex for taking the initiative and the guts to voice out someone who isin need. This is a prolific inaugration and it is here to stay. Collectively and cooperatively we can make a changeand we have already steped foward. Now let us all do it without greed and pride but do it with humility expressing symphathy andempathy for our nation and people. We are building a nation in terms of promoting human resouces. We need educated people, so it is very promisingfor PNG student studying over seas to do such. "A purpose that is aimed at serving others adds a richer meaning to our lives. It taps into the deep craving that everyone livesto make a difference." However, we must now understand that it is not only michael that we are helping but we are setting a phase that opens doorsby which we will substantially help those who cannot make it financially. If it is from the bottom of heart with patriotism to our nationand the good of it why not we think even beyond this. This has open an era for enlightenment. We can only see farther through a tear then through a telescope. Now Michael has put a stepping stone for us to prepare. My challenge to fellow country men and women is do we have a vission and a destiny? Now is the time to do what we can, because we can. The very fundamental question is "HOW CAN WE SUBSTANTIATE THIS?" I suggest that we open a PNG Student association trust account. This will help in any matter that ariseswithin China or bac home,PNG. I am very pleased and happy to hear from you and your gentlemen. I am still not registered yet because the admin. could not allow me though I have informed them of your willingness to assist me. They said that I need to atleast pay in 3/4 of the standard fee before I am allowed to register. I think it will be alright becuase your contribution would help me to add on to what I have and may register myself when you send the sum. I even told them that my friends in China are willing to help me and they are doing fundraising so I need to be enrolled but they still persist.
Anyway, you nice guys are doing something good for me so am still waiting patiently coz I could not do anything right now. Today is the fourth week of the academic year and lectures have already started long time ago. I have miss alot of lectures and presentations but I don't care as long as our Heavenly Father is there and he can help me catch up with my classmates.
Bro, I am very happy and relieved when I heard from you boys..you really comforted me, encouraged me and I am able to get back to school. My heart is with you boys though I am not eating any food at mass, and attending any class, not sleeping well, too many thoughts always distracting me.
Praise almighty God that you gentlemen have made my way to complete my final year. Without your great ideas and acctions I should have already withdrawn from studies....thanks God almighty. This is the way God work..this is a miracle in my life....an encounter I will never forget.... you boys are unique Papua New Guineans.....no one can do that becos..you guys don't know who I am and where I come from but this is the type of heart you have for your country and its people. I may not do anything in your life but only God will do wonders in your lives.. AMEN.
Regarding the MONEY GRAM SERVICE, I am not really sure Wespac Madang do provide such service or not. I will go tomorrow to check it up and will remind you again on this. I think you will provide me some information so that I may use as my supporting documents to collect the money...is that correct?.. coz it would be my first time to experience such service. Remind me on this.

you have said very well and acknowledged your comment. I have K3000 and K1000 will be send in by my uncle sometimes this week. I have an outstanding of K2827 from last year and for this year I will have only K1,173. I will still forced myself to register if I have atleast K2000 plus because I will be liable for the outstanding. If the admin. wants to hold back my certificates and transcripts its OK for them as long as I complete my year.

I am very happy about the concern that you boys have for me..a stranger to you all.. as you all know and I can say that way...who you boys have not known me, my education, my family either my background or province.
You boys have a noblest heart for people like me who has being struggling for almost four years to come to this far. Bro, I am short of words to appreciate you all for your great concern and effort to help me out of my struggle for education.

Hi folks. An apology that I can not remit RMB 400 for Michaels fee as pledged. I was caught up with urgent medical attention so I only remit RMB 200 into Gene's account. I went for a private medical check-up for an application last week and paid some money. And late last week, I caught sever flue and spent some money for medical bill. Just today, I went to see the Dr. and he asked for another medical check so had to pay another lot of money. Guys, medical bill in China is expensive so I urge you all to look after yourself. So folks, I spent most of the money there. Though the university will refund later, it will take approx one month for them to reimburse. Thus, I remit ONLy RMB 200 into Gene's account as part of my contribution towards Michaels education for the betterment of PNG's human resource. I give with all my hearts and prayers. If I have enough then only God knows my heart as to what I would do. Gene, because I am sick, I could not go to the bank to send. So I gave the money to a Togolese friend to remit which he successfully did using his passport. You will see a name: Amegbeghoe Mensah. Thats the Christain friend of mine who sent to your account. Please confirm. Folks, rest is in God's blessings and assurance. I still believe that the little we give, we will reap more blessings. God only knows our heart. i am sure most or all of us have little money but sacrificising these money. God will give back to us in hundred folds.

Lord bless you. U are doing great. I have been in Madang for 3 years working there after my graduation at Unitech. I was invloving in coordination and served as the TSCF National Associate staff for Madang region from 2004 to 2006. I do not know I have met you or no.

I encourage you to get into TSCF fellowship (leave aside our denominational backgrounds)and start to know students in this ministry. There are like minded people there. This is the Ministry God is raising to do what we are doing to help you. I tell you, if there is a group that God is counting down to change PNG, its TSCF! Get in and involve. I know, Michael will cry when he gets the money. But there is one thing I want to remind Michael. "Michael, this is God's hand at work. If you have been praying for Gods help then He works through strangers like us.

I dont know you, I never met you, but I question myself why my heart is willing to give, like others". We are all Gods children. We have the love for one and other. God will take you to higher steps if you keep on holding Him high.

your words are really touching my heart and I could not wait to understand God's hand at work.

You see, I have being thinking too hard about my studies coz I DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY at the first place to register myself at the school.

While I was in the process you gents and lads intervened to help.........that was when I was in a very terrible time which I could not endure. My poor parents could not do much so the only option I had was to withdraw..........however, things went out the oposite, everything, sad thoughts and my whole being just turn around.

I could not believe how it happened. I do not know how all the depression and thoughs dispeared.

I love all of you and may God bless all of you for God has blessed you all with his gifts of understanding and wisdom....God is wonderful and fore sure he will use you nationalists to change this nation.......I beleive we will change this place if we plant the seeds of wisdom and understandning you all have in all Papua New Guineans.......they will definitely believe that you are unique...something great in you all..

Dear Mande Yehiura,Yehi, this would be a very good article to be published in the weekendnewspaper for the readers to read about.Few of our young patriotic PNGeans studying in China had to sacrifice theirallowances by contributing together to pay the tuition fee for an unknownperson who is now doing his final year at Divine Word University.

He(Michael) basically called us through our email chat list last month ashe could not pay up his tuition fees, Our boys studying overseas in Chinaquickly responded by writing a letter to the school guaranteeing the schoolto pay his tuition fees and at last they paid off as listed below.

Our Government is not doing enough in Human Resource development which Ibelieve they have neglected and the Quality of our education hasdramatically dropped. From the national purse, our government is making K200Million a month which is huge amount of money and to Introduce a 90%subsidised fees for tertiary Institution is a must and free Education forlower primary has to be done.

Our country looks to me is hitting the worstof all poverty line as we see uncontrolled price increase of basicitems.............and you can finish it all.......If you will publish, then let me know as well..........

Thank you for your email and compliments on the contribution from beloveds here. Lord places us in strategic positions to execute His purposes. We are blessed to be the channel of blessing that Lord will use us to bless and open doors for people.

Halelujah!!!!

Thanks Generals. It is truely a difficult thing to do by raising funds for someone. One thing I believe is in the grace of God. Only God gives grace to people have eyes to see and ears to hear to do things that is beyond their ability for someone. Only the Grace of God will enable you to do extraordinary thing.
Michael is someone that comes to fellowship time to time. Sometimes we turn to judge people and try to see them change instantly but it doesn't go that way. God is always good. I believe one thing the Generals in China have done is timely and in God's plan to change Michael's destiny as well for God to open doors for the ministry (TSCF) in one way or another.
I met Michael as I was walking to my workplace. He smilled and greeted me in a more friendly manner. We had a chat and encouraged him to attend TSCF fellowship. It is not just attending TSCF fellowship but I believe that would be the place he would encounter the God of his destiny.
Hallelujah Glory be to God and may His mighty hands rest on you Generals in China.
